You are about to enter into this site which aims to describe our business, a vital component of the Corporate and Investment Banking unit. The site includes an extensive range of information that we hope you will find useful in order to have a greater understanding of our activity that is aimed at both the product specialist and those who are just interested in having a better understanding of our thriving entity. Although the bank has developed trade finance activity for over 80 years, it is only in 1997 that a global Trade Finance unit was created. Today, the trade finance activity is organized into two different Units: Structured Trade Finance and Transactional Trade Finance. The former offers all the trade related services that must be structured to answer our customers’ needs and the latter proposes all plain vanilla products to go together with customer’s development. In spite of all the difficulties generated by the financial 2008 turmoil, BBVA Trade Finance has shown a high degree of resilience achieving a record year from all the points of view. This has been recognised worldwide by a bunch of awards received all along 2009. According to Dealogic (company leader in statistics and data base for the financial markets) data for the first quarter of 2010 of the trade finance segment, BBVA occupies the second place in the global ranking. This is a natural consequence of the second position kept in the Asian-Pacific, Latin America and BRIC ( Brazil, Russia, India and China) regions. Additionally, an outstanding place among the 10 leading banks in the ECA backed deals has been achieved. The Banker, Trade Finance Magazine, Trade and Forfaiting Review and Global Trade Review have awarded BBVA with 20 “Deals of the Year” in the last three years. It is important to underline that this impressive achievement is more so due to the wide variety of type of customers (public and private), of the economic sector involved (Energy, Telecom, Petrochemicals, Mining,…) and of the country (Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, India). Also, Global Trade Review, Trade Finance Magazine and Trade and Forfaiting Review have awarded BBVA “Best Trade Bank in Latin America”, the last two ones for the fifth consecutive year. These prizes are most gratifying as they are the result of the direct votes of the companies of the Region. Therefore, they reflect crystal clear the perception the Latin American market has on the quality of service given by BBVA Trade Finance. These awards, whilst significant, don't detract our objective of continuing to offer our customers the best possible service and to provide cross selling opportunities. Our unit boasts many professionals from many nationalities and yet operates under a single hierarchical umbrella, with an aim to provide solutions to all trade finance needs of BBVA's customers. Many of the products that we cover in this site are of particular importance due to the following: • High risk adjustment return • In many emerging markets they are the leading products in entering into the markets and establishing cross-selling potential with target clients • They take full advantage of our continuously growing global presence • All our transactions have at least two relationships and very often considerably more, which provides many additional relations other than the primary source As you go through this site you will see descriptions of our teams, the products, landmark transactions and many other interesting sources of information, which we trust you will enjoy. Of course we are always keen to further explore any additional information that you may require and welcome any suggestions. Our aim is to continually update the information and maintain this site as an interesting reference point |
