Passion for Art

Through its Cultural Activities Department (part of the Bank’s Communication & Image Area), BBVA has conducted an ambitious cultural program for over three decades which has become a reference point for artistic patronage. This program expresses the BBVA Group’s vocation for social responsibility, through which it aims to contribute to the development and welfare of the society in which it conducts its business.
The cultural program’s activities have three main focuses:  the organization of an extensive program of exhibitions designed to bring major national and international art collections to the Spanish public; support for the conservation of Spain’s historical and artistic heritage; and support for musical creation.
The exhibitions program may be subdivided into two sections:

• Exhibitions organized by BBVA
• Exhibitions organized in collaboration with other entities

The exhibits included in the first category are developed internally and presented in our exhibition spaces in Madrid or in museums or cultural venues that receive our programming. This category includes exhibits mounted from the BBVA Collection as well as from European and American museums which we have introduced to Spain:  the Fabre museum in Montpellier, the Goya museum in Castres, the Caen and Dresden museums, the Hispanic Society museum, etc.

The second category relates to exhibitions sponsored in conjunction with other institutions of the highest level, like the Prado, the Guggenheim Bilbao, or the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, with which we have collaborated regularly for years.

Support for the preservation of Spain’s artistic and historical heritage has always been a priority for our institution. It is a means of reaffirming our commitment to improving our society and to defending our common heritage; highlighting its symbolic and historical value. With this program BBVA aims to contribute to the recovery and conservation of important assets in Spain’s historical and artistic heritage, acting to preserve emblematic buildings and properties that are key pieces of art history, and which are highly charged with meaning in their environs.
